SERVING THE COMMUNITY

Since 1911

The Woman’s Club of Bethesda (WCB) has proudly served Montgomery County and the greater Washington DC region for over a century. Founded in 1911, the club’s mission is to advance the well-being of our community through volunteer service, philanthropy, and educational programming.

Our members are dedicated to supporting women, children, and families across Maryland. Whether it’s through hands-on volunteer work, fundraising efforts, or curated collections of essential items, we strive to make a meaningful and lasting impact.

What we do

Fundraising
Events

WCB hosts several events including a holiday boutique, a holiday online market, a silent auction, spring boutique and plant sale. We rely on the community to support these events so we can raise funds that enable us to make philanthropic donations to local charities.

Volunteer Opportunities

WCB supports local charities through in-kind donations such as preparing holiday gift bags for domestic abuse victims, volunteering to read to children, packing backpack and toiletry kits for children entering the foster care system, preparing, and delivering dinners to local shelters and volunteering at a food pantry.

Collections for Families in Need

WCB sponsors several collections to provide needed items to those less fortunate than us. Some of the items we collect include women’s and children’s coats, clothing and shoes, purses filled with cosmetics and toiletries, school supplies and sports equipment.

Club Programs & Events

Club's Year is September to May

Our club year runs from fall to late spring and includes a wide range of events designed to support connection, learning, and community involvement.

October Book Club

Everyone is invited to gather at the Clubhouse to discuss the fall book, “The Glory Field,” by Walter Dean Myers.

”This is the story of one family. A family whose history saw its first ancestor captured, shackled and brought to this country from Africa. A family who can still see the remnants of the shackles that held some of its members captive—even today. It is a story of pride, determination, struggle and love. And of the piece of land that holds them together throughout it all.” (Goodreads)

October 2025 – Monthly Luncheon

This month our guest is – Andrea Carpenter

Andrea Carpenter is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a certified Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) therapist/trainer. For the past 10 years, she has worked with children, youth, families and adults who have experienced traumatic situations and who are working on transitions and adjustments. Her goal is to provide a safe, accepting environment and to help develop insights into thoughts, feelings and actions. Developing effective coping skills and strategies can help to mange stressors, including domestic violence . She also works with people suffering from anxiety, depression and ADHD. Providing positive coping skills helps to improve family dynamics. We look forward to hearing Ms. Carpenter’s perspective and remarks.

November Monthly Luncheon

Held the second Tuesday of each month at 11 a.m.
Join us for lunch, connection, and inspiring local speakers.

Featured Committees & Community-Focused Programs

These are just a few of the many committees and programs that make up the heart of the Woman’s Club of Bethesda. Every member has the opportunity to get involved in areas that match their passions—whether that’s civic engagement, wellness, the arts, or hands-on community service.

Monthly Club Luncheons

Each month, the Woman’s Club of Bethesda hosts a catered luncheon for members to connect, reflect, and plan ahead. These gatherings are an opportunity to build friendships, celebrate the work our committees have done, and share new ideas for creating local impact. Members hear updates on ongoing projects and upcoming volunteer opportunities—and the meeting concludes with a guest speaker who shares insights on local, regional, or national topics of interest.
Below is a small sample of speakers who have joined us in recent years.

  1. Cathy Higgins – Executive Director of Nourishing Bethesda

  2. Detective John Witherspoon – Montgomery County Police Department

  3. Yvonne Esipila Patron – Director, Patesi Foundation

  4. Ambassador Anne Derse – Former U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan and Lithuania

  5. Sue Palka – Former Chief Meteorologist, FOX5 News
